PlayFab developer for Unity games and LiveOps
I integrate and build PlayFab backends for Unity games on mobile, WebGL and VR. From sign in and cloud save to economy, leaderboards, CloudScript and Azure Functions, I make the backend the dependable part of your game. Clients on Upwork recommend me for Unity and PlayFab work, and several have come back for more projects.
What I deliver
Accounts and authentication
Email sign in with verification and password reset, guest and social logins, and account linking that never loses player progress.
Player data and cloud save
Profiles, settings and progress stored in PlayFab, with save and load flows that survive reinstalls and new devices.
Economy and in app purchases
Catalogs, currencies and inventories, plus Unity IAP purchases validated through PlayFab before items are granted.
Leaderboards and competition
Global and friend leaderboards, seasonal resets and events driven by PlayFab statistics.
CloudScript and Azure Functions
Server side logic for anything the client should not be trusted with, including rewards, validation and third party APIs. I have used Azure serverless functions with PlayFab CloudScript to solve WebGL limits in production.
Analytics and LiveOps
Event tracking and analytics, title data for remote configuration, and offers or events your team can change without shipping a new build.
Typical engagements
Backend integration
Connecting an existing Unity game to PlayFab, from the first login to a working economy.
Backend rescue
Fixing a PlayFab setup that is fragile, insecure or losing player data, with a written report of what changed and why.
LiveOps setup
Events, offers and remote config, so your team can run the game after launch without a developer on every change.
Ongoing support
A monthly arrangement for backend changes, new features and troubleshooting.
PlayFab projects with real clients
Backends I built for games on WebGL and mobile, including the reviews clients left.

PlayFab backend for a Unity WebGL game, ready for beta launch
A Unity WebGL game needed a production backend before its beta launch. I integrated PlayFab for email authentication with verification and password reset, analytics on player behaviour, and secure cloud storage of user data.

Twitter login for a Unity WebGL game with PlayFab and Azure Functions
Invision needed PlayFab leaderboards and sign in with both email and Twitter for a Unity WebGL game. Twitter login could not run on the WebGL client side, so I moved it to the server with an Azure serverless function invoked through PlayFab CloudScript.

Language learning games for a Rutgers University research project
A series of Unity WebGL games for language and education research at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA. I built the games, integrated PlayFab for accounts, saved data and analytics, and deployed them with Firebase Hosting. The client has come back for repeat projects.

Questions studios ask
Can PlayFab work in a Unity WebGL game?
Yes. Many of my PlayFab projects are Unity WebGL games with email login, analytics and leaderboards running in the browser, plus server side workarounds where the browser blocks a client side call.
Should my game use PlayFab or Firebase?
Both are solid. PlayFab is built for games and gives you economy, leaderboards and LiveOps tools out of the box. Firebase is great for analytics, remote config and simpler data needs. I have shipped both and can help you choose before you commit.
Can you help with a game that already uses PlayFab?
Yes. I can join a project that already uses PlayFab to add features, fix bugs or review its CloudScript and data setup.
Do you also build the Unity side?
Yes. I am a Unity developer first, so the client integration, UI and game logic are covered too.
How do you price this kind of work?
Fixed scope work is quoted per milestone after a short scoping call. Ongoing work is billed monthly. Share your budget range in the form and I will tell you honestly what it can cover.
Need a backend you can trust?
Share what your game needs from its backend and where it runs. I reply within one business day.
